Zetech University Media techizens recently participated in an in-depth Solutions Journalism training facilitated by Africa Solutions Media Hub, a distinguished non-profit organization dedicated to advancing journalism that promotes meaningful social impact.
The session, held at The Ruiru Campus, aimed at equipping aspiring journalists with the tools to craft compelling narratives that not only examine pressing societal issues but also producing balanced, constructive, and impactful stories that inspire positive change and foster a more informed and engaged society.
Ms. Lilian Kaivilu, a seasoned journalist and development communicator, thoroughly led participants through the foundational principles of Solutions Journalism, underscoring the critical role of rigorous research, analytical rigor, and balanced narrative construction. “You can pitch solutions stories during slow news cycles or tie them to ongoing debates to stay relevant. Also, scout for grants to support your fieldwork.” She said.
Zetech University has achieved a remarkable milestone on the continental stage after delivering an outstanding performance at the 2025 Pan-African Robotics Competition (PARC), held from 17th to 19th July in Dakar, Senegal.
Representing Kenya with pride, six student teams from Zetech University, under the University’s AI League, showcased exceptional innovation, resilience, and technical brilliance throughout the competition. Among the top ten finalist teams in Africa, Zetech University distinguished itself with impressive results that included a Silver Medal awarded to Miner AI innovation, a Bronze Medal won by the Team Safari, and a Special Award for Best Live Demonstration—cementing the University’s position as a continental leader in technology and innovation.
MinerAI Team developed an AI-driven system that detects illegal mining activity using satellite imagery and a verified database of registered mine coordinates, providing an intelligent surveillance tool to support mining authorities and environmental regulators. Meanwhile, Team Safari built a solution, Deepmine Sentinel AI, that predicts the underground stability of stopes—the hollowed-out underground spaces in mines—helping prevent collapse and improve the safety of mining operations.
With global blockchain adoption expanding rapidly, educational institutions face increasing pressure to prepare students for a decentralised digital future. Zetech University recently held the Web3 Career Day 2025 at Technology Park Mang’u Campus to explore how students understand blockchain ecosystems, and sustainable methods for monetising social media presence in the age of technological advancement.
Web3, often referred to as Web3.0, represents the next evolution of the internet and is frequently defined by decentralisation—a shift that places control back into the hands of users. At its core, it envisions a digital world where individuals own their data, their assets, and even their online identities. This redistribution of power is enabled by technologies such as blockchain, smart contracts, and token-based economies, which together create systems that are more transparent, secure, and participatory.
Blockchain and cryptocurrency are no longer peripheral innovations. Recent research estimates that in 2025, over 560 million people worldwide are actively engaging with blockchain technologies. These systems are reshaping finance, governance, identity management, and digital creativity. For students, who stand at the intersection of technological innovation and societal transformation, this moment represents both an opportunity and a responsibility: to not only comprehend the mechanics of Web3 but also to critically engage with its implications and harness its potential for meaningful impact.
“We are living in an age where digital media dominates, but with great power comes great responsibility. As future media professionals, you must uphold the values of truth, fairness, and accuracy in all your endeavors.” Jacob Nyongesa, Media Council of Kenya.
Zetech University, in collaboration with Journalism Students Association of Kenya, successfully hosted the Annual Media Students Conference 2025 at Ruiru Campus from 26th to 27th September 2025, convening media students and aspiring professionals from universities across the country.
The conference dived into critical dialogue on the future of journalism and communication, with multiple panel discussions dedicated to digital media transformations, ethical practice, fact-checking, political reporting, and emerging career trajectories in the media landscape.
“The rise of digital technologies has transformed the production, distribution, and consumption of news. Journalists increasingly rely on tools such as artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics, and mobile platforms to enrich storytelling and expand audience reach. This technological evolution has fostered more dynamic and interactive journalism, enabling real-time updates and the seamless integration of multimedia content.” Ms. Sarah Hassan, Multi-Award Winning Actor, TV presenter and producer.
